Amy McAllister had an urge to try fly fishing, so she got on the web and found Altamont Anglers, gave us a call and we booked a day of fly fishing instruction for Saturday, September 30, 2006. There's a problem with Saturdays, and that's the inevitable crowds that turn out on the better streams, but if that's when you have to go, that's when you have to go...

Altamont Anglers' guide Stephen Morris chose the Davidson River for the day's instruction, a favorite river for our guides when teaching beginners for lot's of reasons, one of which is not the crowds. Stephen took Amy and Scott downstream from the gang of hopefuls at the hatchery and concentrated on casting instruction, line mending, knot tying and all the other intricacies of fly fishing. They eventually worked their way back upstream, finishing up at the "Humble Hole" where Amy put all her new skills to work to hook and land this nice, fat 16" rainbow. Not a bad reward for a first-time angler's efforts!
