The Goering clan--or at least the fly fishers of the family, Bob, Robert and Will--represent the best in clientelle: they fish often and they bring their friends and fly-fishing club-members with them. Robert booked the first few trips with Altamont Anglers, followed by his son Will's booking to celebrate Robert's birthday, and at last we got the call from Bob, Robert's father and Will's grandfather, organizing an October excursion.
Altamont Anglers guides Teo Whitlock, Jay Dodd and Forrest Marshall manned the oars for Bob's group (which--confusingly enough--included Robert and Will), floating the Watuga and South Holston rivers on October 1 and 2.
October marks the beginning of "big fish" season on these rivers, as brown trout begin to get aggressive in anticipation of the spawning season to come, moving out of the deeper water and taking on protein and generally becoming more vulnerable to our flies and deceptions.
