George Clark, who lives in Flintstone, GA, brings the family up to the cool confines of their place in Sapphire Valley to escape the low-land heat.
On this particular visit, he and his son Andrew developed a hankering to try their hands at fly fishing, and gave the Altamont Anglers a call to check our calendar. The Davidson River, our favorite fly fishing "campus" for the education of new anglers, just happens to be half-way between the Altamont Anglers offices in Asheville and the Clark's abode in Sapphire Valley, so AA guide Teo Whitlock arranged to meet them there for a half day of instruction.
Judging by that big 'bow on the left Andrew and George must have been quick learners, or model students! Most folks' first foray with the fly rod involve more cussing and re-knotting than catching and releasing, but the photos that follow prove the value of starting out with a good guide.
