John Claunch brought the family up to Asheville from their digs in Fairhope, AL for some cooling mountain air. He had a great plan to treat his father and himself to a half-day of guided fly fishing, but the plan had a flaw--it relied on the airlines' ability to deliver his Dad from Houston in time for the fishing. When the airline cancelled Dad's flight we discussed the various options of re-scheduling, cancelling, John fishing alone, etc. and at some point John heard a small voice with a solution: why not take treat his daughter Anna Grace to a fly fishing lesson?
So Altamont Anglers' guide Forrest Marshall took John and Anna Grace to one of his favorite back-country streams to learn some fly fishing and stalk some wild brookies. Judging from the pictures, Anna Grace is a quick learner, if not a natural-born threat to the wild brook trout population.
Here's a nice shot of Anna Grace and her Dad, John, with a fine brook trout caught July 27, 2006 after a little bit of instruction in the back-country not far from Asheville, NC: (click to enlarge the picture)...

And here's a great shot of John and Anna and a truly over-sized wild brook trout (over-sized for the tiny, back-country stream it inhabits, that is)--they say an 11-inch wild brookie is a trophy, and this looks to measure up to trophy proportions (click to enlarge the image)...
And here are a few more nice shots of and Anna Grace and John Claunch with some nice back-country brookies on July 27, 2006 (click the thumbs for a bigger view)...
