The David Scott family escaped the August heat of their home in Shreveport, Louisianna by traveling up to the slightly cooler mountains of Western North Carolina. They booked a day of fly fishing instruction for David and his son, Chad, and Altamont Anglers' guide Jay Dodd introduced them to the (even cooler) waters of the Watauga River on Friday, August 3 2007. The Watauga River requires a little drive (just over an hour from Asheville, NC) but the cold, clear water flowing from Watauga Lake makes trout happy, even in the heat of August--and what makes the trout happy usually makes the angler happy. That probably explains the expression on Chad's face as he holds up the rewards for paying careful attention to guide Jay's instructions: a fat Watauga River rainbow trout (click the picture for a larger view)...

You know the fishing's good when you can record a "double" (2 anglers simultaneously fighting trout), and Jay looked downstream to record a shot of Chad leaning into a nice one, turned and faced upstream to get a shot of David all hooked up (click the thumbs for larger views)
