A huge brown trout caught on the Davison River
Altamont Anglers guide Teo Whitlock holds a fat brown trout caught by his client, John Haik, on the Davidson River September 16 (click the image for full-size view).

The rain-soaked anglers in that photo to the left don't mind the rain: they're warmed by the glow from that huge brown trout! But that rain was just the beginning, back on September 16, of a weather system that ultimately proved disastrous--even fatal--for residents of the Southeast. The graph below, with September 16 on the far left (Davidson flowing at about 55cfs in the photo to the left) spans a two-week period during which stream flows on the Davidson River peaked at almost 6000cfs. On the right side of the graph is the flow at this posting (9/29/09), 206cfs--fishable, but still tough wading! Click the graph to see it full-size...
