John Johnson holding a nice, fat brook trout caught on the Tuckasegee River on Monday, May 18 2009 (click the image for a larger view).
Well, the drought is officially over--according to the NC Drought Management Advisory Council--so much so, in fact, that thunderstorms blew out all our options over last weekend, save for the Tuckasegee River. With the TVA drawing down the lakes (making the Watauga and South Holston Rivers a challenge) the controlled flow of the Tuckasegee River is a welcome fall-back plan for guides and anglers.
Doug Johnson booked a trip for himself and his brother John for Monday, May 18 partly to provide John, a beginning fly fisherman, with some valuable instruction. Altamant Anglers guide Teo Whitlock provided the oar-power and instruction, and Judging by the photo to the left, John was a quick learner!
