Pete Klukowski came down from Waunaka, WI with his friend Heather Olson for a day of fly fishing instruction. Altamont Anglers guide Rich Witt provided the expertise, and the contents from Pete's email after returning home says it all:
"Just wanted to thank you and Rich for an absolutely great time on our full day walk/wade trip, June 28th. It was the best of both worlds in that Rich took us to the Davidson in the morning and a mountain Brook stream in the afternoon. As enjoyable as the fishing was in both spots, we were more pleased with the wealth of information, patience and instruction Rich shared. We simply could not have asked for a better, more enjoyable guide and experience." Heather had her own thoughts on the trip, which she shares here:

Here's Heather and Rich Witt with a fat Davidson River Brookie: not bad for a "first time" fly fisher...

Heather says "I knew going in to our day long walk/wade trip with our guide Richard Witt that I would enjoy the peacefulness and the beauty of the natural surroundings we would be in, and I anticipated the fly fishing would be alright based on my few prior attempts at it in Wisconsin. So, my expectations were that it would be just alright - that's all and nothing more. So you can imagine how surprised I was by how much I enjoyed fly fishing. I became entirely enthralled by every piece of information Rich had to share with us. Rich was extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of fly fishing. I learned there was so much more to fly fishing than I ever knew, but it never became overwhelming. Rich was able to keep it understandable and fun all at the same time. He also easily catered his instruction to each of our skill levels simultaneously. It was just absolutely wonderful. I am hooked. ! I cannot wait to fly fish again and again. I look forward to going back to WNC for more fly fishing and guiding adventures. I really credit this to Rich's excellent instruction and guiding ability. The whole day was a wonderful adventure. We fished, hiked and saw the best scenery you could imagine.

If anybody was debating over whether it would be worth it to get a guide for a day, I would say that it is the best way to start your fly fishing adventure in the Blue Ridge. Rich really prepared us for where to go and what to do next in our upcoming days fly fishing the area, and he even gave some great restaurant recommendations. The next morning we tried one of his breakfast recommendations. We had a wonderful breakfast, and I had the best coffee of the whole trip. Thank you for providing such a wonderful guiding service!

By the way, I caught a 11-inch Rainbow and an 18-inch Brook Trout on the Davidson. I guess that was pretty wonderful too. "
