Jean-Francois LaValle, an avid dry-fly fisherman who lives near Montreal, made the long drive down to our area in late November, booking a day with us for November 25, 2006. Altamont Anglers' guide Teo Whitlock met Jean-Francois on the Davidson River, where they agreed the to leave those crowded waters and head for one of our little back-country streams. However, the cold at the higher altitude provided slow fishing, so they returned to the Davidson and hiked downstream, away from the crowds, where Teo introduced J-F to the fine arts of nymph fishing. Here's what Jean-Francois had to say when he sent us these nice pictures:

"Although it was the first time I paid for a wading trip and was a little reluctant to do so at first, I must say that for a first experience it was simply great. Teo was very professional and was patient enough with me during the entire day of nymphing lesson."

Here are some shots taken by Jean-Francois on the Davidson River, November 25, 2006 (click the images for larger views)...

Jean-Francois resumes his narrative:
" I really learned a lot and tried to put all I learned in application the following days.
Needless to say, my catch ratio went down on my own, but at least I felt that I was doing sorta the right thing which helped me to stick to it instead of reverting to dry flying which I always done before."

"In my last days I stayed in Gatlinburg and fished the Little Pigeon Middle Prong near Ramsey Cascade. I am sure you know the spot, but please tell Teo about it if he doesn't, I am sure he  will love it. It was just fabulous. And thanks to his advices, I fished a little pool where I would never of thought there could be fish before... and caught some!"
