Some of the best fishing of the year in Western North Carolina occurs during October and November, when brown trout begin the spawning process, starting with actively feeding to take on sufficient protein to complete the task ahead of them. Knowledgable anglers can seize this opportunity for the chance at that once-in-a-lifetime lunker, providing the fish are played quickly to the net, handled gently, and released promptly to get back their important work.
Scott luttrell, a frequent visitor and "preferred client" with Altamont Anglers (he had a good day last year, and other good days in the past) brought his own 'Band of Brothers' for a couple of half-days over the weekend, and Altamont Anglers guides Teo Whitlock and Jay Dodd put them on the lunkers moving up the Davidson River.
All the members of Team Luttrell seem to have had the hot hands during the afternoon of October 30 and the morning of November 1, but none was hotter than the hand of Scott Dickenson, judging by the size of the egg-heavy hen brown trout on the left!
