ltamont Anglers' guides Erich Sonderegger and Teo Whitlock found themselves sharing the water with clients on the Davison River on Thursday, May 22, 2008. Erich had, on short notice, agreed to a half-day's fly fishing instruction for Nick Marwell and his friend Margaret, who were escaping the DC area for some mountain air and decided it was time try fly fishing!

While Erich, Nick and Margaret worked out the kinks of a first time fly fishing experience, they suffered the indignity of Teo's long-time, experienced client just yards away, hammering fish after fish. However, not to be outdone, Erich proved his tutorial talents while Nick and Margaret proved they are quick studies, as these photos will attest.
That is one very hefty Davidson River brown trout about to be released by Margaret!

It's a special talent, introducing folks who've never held a fly rod to the intricacies of fly fishing, and anyone who's tried it will tell you that some folks just won't ever catch on to it: that doesn't appear to have been the case for Erich with his students, Nick and Margaret.
This hefty rainbow had to be cajoled into eating the fly (largely Erich's job to accomplish through proper fly selection), and then had to be properly hooked, played, netted and released: hooking and playing are entirely up to the student, and Nick has obviously learned well...
