fly fishing the South Holston RiverBill Matyi caught this big brown--held by guide Teo Whitlock--on the Watauga River on June 6, 2012 (click image for full view)

Bill Matyi is a South Holston River fanatic, but when he invited a friend to join him for some fishing on June 6 their guide took them over to the Watauga River instead. Proof that it pays to listen to a guide's advice is in the pictures: Bill caught a hog of a brown trout, but even more impressive was his buddy's big striper!!

Just because most of the catching is still being done Sulphur patterns, BWO's on cloudy days and the ever-present midges doesn't mean one shouldn't mix it up with the occasional streamer, as Bill has discovered.
