When Mike Smith called Altamont Anglers to book a half day's guided fly fishing for he and his friend Jo Mammoliti, he expressed a hope that Jo would enjoy her introduction to fly fishing enough to want to repeat the experience--hopefully, with Mike!

Jay Dodd holds up a nice 16" rainbow caught by Jo Mammoliti on the Davidson River on Saturday, November 3, 2007

Here's what Mike had to say when he sent us these photos from Jo's introduction to fly fishing (Altamont Anglers' guide Jay Dodd seems to have had some success at fly fishing instruction that day):

"Jo and I had a great fishing experience on the Davidson with Jay. Jo is ready to go again soon so the trip was everything I had hoped it would be. Tell Jay thanks for a great day and we really enjoyed his company."

This was a rare trip to the Davidson River, which had just received a rare rainfall in the days before this November 3 excursion, but you can see from lookining into the background of these pictures that the water level had already returned to the pitifully low flows that have characterized our local streams due to this year's terrible drought.

The pictures below are a nice little sequence depicting the heroic battle and precision netting of that Davison River rainbow (click the images for larger views)...
