Rick Ollman had so much fun last year, when he was guided by Altamont Anglers' guide Teo Whitlock during a visit to Asheville, that he gathered together some buddies for a return trip. Teo took Rick, Rob Gorman and Andy Cuprisin for some fly fishing lessons on the West Fork of the Pigeon River on March 31, 2006. Judging from the photos, they were quick learners who knew how to enjoy themselves on a trout stream. In the picture below (click it to enlarge it) Rob, Andy and Rick pose for a post-lunch group photo. While we can't see Andy's hands, we assume he's the "designated wader", steadying his comrades in the currents...
Here's Rick with a honking big brook trout--click to enlarge (the photo, not the fish...)
The thumbs that follow illustrate our intrepid anglers' growing mastery of the various techniques of trout gripping, fly-from-trees-removing (we think it's cruel that a buddy would record such a moment on film), and beer storage-while-wading that are essential for any successfull day a-stream. Can you find the stored beers? Click away...

We singled this photo out because it illustrates one of the dangers of drinking and fishing: note the absence of a tell-tale bulge in Rob's waders, indicating the consumption of his stores, and the resulting size of the fish. Not that we're suggesting a direct cause/effect relationship, here...(click to enlarge)
