Doug Ramsey (on the right) caught this big brown trout, held by his guide Teo Whitlock, on the Davidson River, Sunday, June 27, 2010 (click to enlarge)
Doug and Summer Ramsey found themselves in Asheville, NC on the last weekend in June, thanks to some work-related duties of Summer's, and Doug took advantage of some time off on Sunday to book a half-day of instruction in the "quiet sport".
Altamont Anglers guide Teo Whitlock took Doug and Summer over to our fly fishing "campus", the Davidson River. The Davidson is a wonderful stream for a fly fishing lesson, what with its resident population of hungry fish protected by the No-Kill rules of the river, and easy access to the better water. Of course, the fact that the trout all have PHD's of their own makes the Davidson a bit like the MIT or Harvard of fly fishing campuses, and students are very dependant on the local knowledge of their professors--or guides--for any success they might achieve.
Judging by that big brown trout on the left Doug and Summer must have been good students! It just proves that it pays to mind the "perfersser"...
