Ross Harrison called us from his home in Savanah, GA, in late January, '06, to arrange some guided fishing for he and a couple of his fishing buddies. They were itching to try their luck on the South Holston River, never having fished it but aware of its reputation for challenging, quality fly fishing. Over the objections of his buddies, Ross insisted on hiring a fly fishing guide to help "dial them in" on the secrets of the river, and his wisdom and self-knowedge (his quote "we all fly fish, we can cast and all, but we really don't know what we're doing...") are probably the reason that the only pictures of trout from the day are pictures of trout held by him!

Altamont Anglers' guide Teo Whitlock re-considered our policy of only offering full-day trips to the Tennessee rivers we fish, and met Ross and friends en-route to the river for a half-day of guidance on the secrets of the South Holston. For someone who claimed not to "really know" what he's doing, Ross seems to have figured it out.
