Tom Martin hoists a hefty smallmouth bass he caught on May 19, 2009 (click image for larger view).
Tom"not a slave to fashion" Martin is a passionate angler with years of experience seeking--and catching--bass. Despite the many hours spent in bass boats, Tom still feels the suspense of every cast and retrieve, and has lost none of his excitement for every bite by a bass!
And--judging by the photo to the left--Tom still feels the exuberance of the final boating of the prize, in this case one fine specimen of smallmouth bass. While most successful fisherman have acquired, over the years, secrets to their success, most keep these hard-learned tricks or techniques close to vest. Not Tom. His magic bass-attracting fish bibs are right out there for all to see...

Ken Petersonholds a powerful smallmouth bass on May 19, 2009 (click image to enlarge).
Ken Peterson is the perfect foil for his fishing buddy, Tom, easily passing the age-old test "could you spend a day in a bass boat with this guy?": calm, reserved, always impeccably dressed and--most importantly--willing to pay for the guide!
Altamont Anglers guide Teo Whitlock keeps an eye on the bass-fishing conditions here in Western North Carolina, with standing orders from Tom and Ken that when it gets right, he is to call them. And so he did, and so they arrived on Tuesday, May 19, primed for a half-day float . Despite recent thunderstorms--you can see how full the river is in that photo to the right--the fishing appears to have been worth the drive from their homes in the Charlotte, NC area.
