Paul Tootleman and Steve Paradise belong to a network of anglers based in New Jersey, with whom they've shared fishing excursions from the Catskills to the Rockies. Unlike some angling relationships which evolve into lifelong competitions for the biggest or most fish and which therefore involve secrecy and subterfuge regarding fly patterns, secret "honey holes", and even favorite guides, these guys actually share their knowledge and discoveries with each other!! Thus did Paul and Steve's fishing buddy Walt Pabers (more on Walt here) report back to them after a couple of trips south to Asheville, NC where he had discovered the services of Altamont Anglers Fy Fishing Guides, and particularly the services of AA guide Teo Whitlock. A couple of preliminary conversations later and they were booked up for three consecutive days of fishing guided by Teo on the various waters around Asheville and inclucing the South Holston River, in Eastern Tennessee.
Team Tootleman & Paradise spent an automotively challenged day getting to and from the South Holston on Friday, May 4th, 2007, but managed to catch a couple of dozen fish while floating the lower end of the river in a day filled with rain and thunder. On Saturday, May 5th, Teo took them over to the West Fork of the Pigeon River and they finished up their Appalachian Sampler on the Davidson River on Sunday, May 6 2007. Paul says, " My thanks for a wonderful fishing exprience. The rivers we fished were very diversified and I enjoyed that a lot. I learned a lot from Teo and look forward to fishing with him in the fall", while Steve has this to say: "Drake, thanks again to you and Teo for 3 wonderful days on 3 terrific and very different rivers. Teo was the ultimate guide – extremely knowledgeable, a great fisherman, a wonderful teacher and a very nice and patient young man. You should be very proud of him (although he says he taught you everything you know!)"
